Auto Detailing Car Flooding Vehicle

What To Do If Your Car Has Flooded In The Rain

You wake up to the glorious sound of rain. You’re laying in bed listening to it hit your roof and all of a sudden you remember YOU LEFT YOUR WINDOW CRACKED OPEN!

Problem solving immediately starts but you are shocked so you don’t know where to start. You most likely google it and maybe you’re now reading this article. We want to help you assess the severity and give you some solutions to your car being flooded by the rain.

Easy Solution You Can Do Yourself

The first thing you want to do is pick up as much water as you possibly can. If you have a shampooer or wet-vacuum that’s the thing you want to use.

You first want to start with the carpets as that’s where most of the water will be. Go section by section till you removed all you can. If you are finished with the carpets and they are still soaked you may need to take a more drastic approach.

Why removing the seats is the next step

If you remove all the water you can and your carpets are still soaked then the next step is to remove the seats and carpets from your vehicle. Why? Seems like a lot of work I’m sure. But if you tried the method above and still feel the carpets soaked that means the water has gone through the carpet, went into the carpets padding and is sitting at the base of your vehicle. This can cause mold and become very harmful to you and your family. However if this is taken care of properly then you can prevent mold and mildew.

How to Clean Properly to Prevent Mold & Mildew

Once you have all the seats removed you will have to remove the carpets. Ideally you will want the seats and carpets to sit in the sun as you clean the base of the vehicle. You are going to use your wet- vacuum to soak up any water and condensation from the frame of your vehicle. After that you are going to clean it with a degreaser then with a mold preventative.

You’ll then want to shampoo your seats and carpet with the same chemicals. (ensure that your mold preventative is safe for upholstery) After you are finished you’ll let them dry in the sun. Once everything is dry you can reinstall the carpets then the seats.
